Uruguay, Republic. A 1865 Medal For Yatay, Silver Grade For Officers Archive on loop for suspension -Silver, 28. 7 mm x 34. 3 mm, spotting on the obverse, very light contact, near extremely fine. Footnote: The medal was instituted on September 30, 1865 and awarded to the Uruguayan forces who fought in the Battle of Yatay (Jata). A silver medal was awarded to officers, a bronze medal to other ranks. Paraguay fought a catastrophic war against the Triple Alliance of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay from 1864 to 1870. At Yatay on August 17, 1865, Alliance
