In silver gilt, a white enamel cross with green enamel segments in each quadrant, the obverse medallion featuring the initials RI, encircled by the inscription AL MERITO MILITARE, the reverse medallion features crossed swords with the dates 1855 1947 surmounted by a green enamelled wreath, measures 53 mm (w) x 85 mm (h inclusive of wreath suspension), weighs 36. 0 grams, marked 925 on the loop and the reverse of the wreath
