and a latch at the center of the front

and was enhanced with some green and white paint plus yellowy-cream paint across the flat of the stumps

and would I think make a great little pedestal for a carved figure  or animal or other little this or thatl

clearly handmade from a scrap chunk of wood

Sloan, Maine, and I believe dating to the 1980s or so. I've found a few other birds signed by Sloan out there on the internet, but haven't been able to dig up anything about him, and don't have a first name. As a Mainer, certainly he saw plenty of heron and egrets, but this is specifically a Japanese crane, as noted on the underside of the base. 7 1 4" t x 5 5 8" long beak to
